I had completely forgotten about this book until I saw the cover the other night. My three-year-old self was afraid of this book cover. But it's a great book, and most of the illustrations aren't terrifying, and the words are just delightful. Here are some lines that I like the most:If you have butterflies in your stomach,What a great book to read to your kids!
ask them into your heart.
If your heart catches in your throat,
ask a bird how she sings.
If the birds forgot their songs,
listen to a pebble instead.
If there is no happy ending,
make one out of cookie dough.
I found a site where someone has posted all of the pages to the book. If you want to read the rest of it and see all the illustrations, go here.

AHHH!!! Is that book still at our house?
And while we're at it, whatever happened to Crisp Crispian, the dog who had a place for everything and everything in its place?
Our copy of Crispin's Crispian (a true Conservative) was falling apart when we first obtained it. I doubt that it still exists in the house, but who knows? A rag of it may yet endure. I will keep an eye out for it.
By the way, do either of you remember the book about all the various species of animals being tucked into their respective beds and nests and dens. It had the finest illustration at the end showing the entire neighborhood at dusk with real-looking chimney smoke hanging in the twilight. We could turn out the light after reading it and the moonlight & lamp light from the animals' windows and would actually illuminate the scene.
Marie, I looked for our copy this weekend but couldn't find it. I'm pretty sure we have a gigantic box of old books somewhere but I haven't found it in any of the closets yet... I'll keep looking. I want to find Little Fur Family. And that rain forest book, do you remember that? With the Jabba the Hutt thing that stuck out his tongue?
